First understand that this game is easy to carry most everywhere you go.
You just need a flat surfice, like a table, and you can enjoy playing a hand in as little as five minutes. You don't even need a pencil or paper.
Because it is so easy to tranport it is great for playing on camping trips, while waiting in the doctor's office with your children, waitng to be served in a resturant, in the car while traveling and a ton of other places. You just grab the little banana pouch and go.
Bananagrams Toys
The rules are simple and easy to understand. First you simply unzip the banana like carrying pouch and dump the 144 tiles on your flat surface. Flip all of the tiles face down and puch them together into a bunch.
Each player then draws a certain number of tiles to begin. The number of tiles taken depends on the number of people playing the game. For 2-4 players, draw 21 tiles each. For 5-6 people, draw 15 tiles each. For 7-8 people, draw 11 tiles each. As soon as the tiles have been drawn by each player, any player participating yells (maybe softly depending on where you are playing) "Split!". And then the game begins. Players start flipping letters and creating words.
The words that the players create may be horizontal or vertical, reading left to right and they can rearrange their own words as often as they want. Players play at the same time, independently of each other and do not take turns.
As soon as a player uses up all of his or her letters, they yell "Peel!". At this time all the players must draw another letter. If a player draws a letter that seems impossible to place, then that player calls out "Dump!" and can exchange this letter for 3 others. Other players will not take a tile on a dump.
Play continues until there are fewer tiles in the bunch than there are number of players. After this, the first person to use up all of his or her remaining tiles claims "Bananas!" and is the winner of the hand if all of their words check out. A legal word is one found in the dictionary that the players have agreed to use for legality before the game started.
If the professed winner is found to have an illegal word then he or she is declared a "rotten banana" and their tiles are returned to the bunch and play continues with the rest of the players in the game.
Portable Game
The portable game Bananagrams comes in a single or 2-set game. Due to the fact that this game helps children boost their word power, it is a great addition to any school, church or summer program. Consider giving a Bananagrams game to one of these learning programs.
